Professional Training

For either recreation, competition or hunting, our instructors provide a fantastic course for the novice archer. 

From sticks and simple stones to modern archery equipment, imagine early man being able to project an arrow downrange accurately enough to be able to harvest food or protect himself from predators.

Some would say that language, fire and these simple tools assured mans rise above the animals. The skill of mastering the bow and arrow to send a simple implement to it’s mark was an essential part of our very survival in our early days. Bow and arrow became an absolute necessity in obtaining food and defending mankind in battles for many centuries. While the stakes may not be as high today, the rewards are still great.

Today archers take up the bow and arrow for fun, recreation, hunting the pursuit of excellence and their pleasure and satisfaction comes from connecting with a skill that dates back to our earliest ancestors.

For more than 5,000 years archery has played a major role in human existence. Today modern equipment is accurate and dependable; it can be primitive or extremely efficient. While firearms may have replaced the importance of the bow and arrow in battle, the popularity of archery is at an all time high. 

Folk heroes like Robyn Hood, and more recently characters like Katniss Everdeen have popularized and reignited an interest in archery. It can give us a chance to relive our beginnings, to celebrate our exploits, and to meet our personal challenges. It's a fun family sport that can be enjoyed by individuals or groups. It can be a fun filled pastime, or a can be a very intense sport. It can develop fitness and strength to provide food. It's for men, women, children, the disabled -- no one is excluded. Archery offers several genres including games, hunting, the Olympics, or just plain passing time. 

Our goal with this program is to introduce you to the sport of mankind since time began. Through this program we hope to help open a door for you into a new and wonderful world -- of archery.

On February 2, 1984, an association of Conservation and Hunter Education Instructors was incorporated and registered with the Societies Act as a nonprofit organization. In addition, on January 1, 1991, our organization received its registered charity status. We are the Alberta Hunter Education Instructors' Association.

Goals and Objectives:

• To promote the highest standard of sportsman behavior.
• To teach and promote the ethical and humane treatment of fish, wildlife, and all other living creatures.
• To support the improvement of Conservation Education.
• To promote Hunter Education curriculum and instruction development.
• To promote communication among all instructors in the Conservation Education and Hunter Education Programs.
• To promote affiliation with Conservation and Hunter Education interest groups.

The Association:

The Alberta Conservation and Hunter Education Program is viewed as one of, if not the finest in North America. We, as an Association, are working with instructors to provide material and information to perpetuate and enhance this excellent program. Through information exchange, equipment availability, and continued communication, we endeavor to meet individual instructor needs and enable the instructor to present the best quality education possible.
